With its open rooftop machans and large wooden decks that overlook the shady nullah, guests at the boutique safari Baghvan Pench Jungle Lodge are constantly immersed in the sights and sounds of the Indian jungle.
Tucked into dense forest,12 bungalow suites enjoy the dappled shade of massive teak and banyan trees. Wildlife wanders through the dry river bed or nullah that winds its way through the lodge grounds.

Lining the sandy bed of this animal thoroughfare, spacious decks look out on dainty chital picking their way along the riverbed. A favourite route of the Pench tigers, the shady nullah has been known to provide some thrilling game experience.

At Baghvan Jungle Lodge, the days are designed to thrill you with unexpected jungle encounters and the fragrant Indian nights to spoil you and indulge your senses.

Rich birdlife flits through the trees overhanging your machan and monkeys chatter excitedly in the dense foliage. The sounds of the jungle filter through the night and you drift off to sleep to the distant yipping of jackal.

Rooms:
The 12 charming suites have a contemporary bungalow feel with a cheeky 50’s ambience, with contrasting hues of copper and pale turquoise. The spacious suites comprise two inter-linked buildings.

A covered inter-leading link takes guests to generously proportioned bathrooms with twin hand basins, separate WC, and indoor and outdoor showers. Stairs lead guests up to a machan (a covered rooftop platform) which is perfect for romantic sleepouts, complete with mosquito net, overhead fan and hookah pipes.

Accommodation in charming suites, three delicious meals daily including all teas and coffees, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, refreshments on game-drives, 2 scheduled safari activities daily, forest guide fees, emergency medical evacuation insurance and applicable taxes.

Facilities:
The spacious guest areas are elegantly finished with delicate handmade Parsi tiles, woven hyacinth furniture, and giant ebony chests. Cool, airy and comfortable, they boast high ceilings and deep welcoming sofas. Large shaded decks lead guests down from the sitting room to the nullah.

Baghvan’s interactive kitchen spills out into the dining area where guests encouraged to learn how to prepare traditional Indian dishes – recipes and spices provided! Guests can browse peacefully in the Safari Shop, idle away the hours in the library, or cool off in the swimming pool which contours along the nullah.

Indulge in an Ayurvedic massage in your room or relax in the open rooftop machan, watching the abundant birdlife in the nearby trees.

Situated in the Seoni District of southern Madhya Pradesh, Pench National Park runs in continuation with Pench National Park in neighbouring Maharashtra.

Dominated by hills, forests and valleys, this national park derives its name from the Pench River, which meanders its way through the entire stretch of the 757 km2 park. Kala Pahar, the park’s highest hill, reaches 650m above sea level. This national park received international recognition from Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale, the Jungle Book.

Dining:
Breakfast takes place on the veranda, with platters heaped with traditional Indian fare or the more familiar eggs cooked to your preference. Try Indian delicacies like kathi rolls stuffed with chicken, lamb or vegetable, or homemade pancakes with potato, paneer and cauliflower called paranthas.

Delicious Indian dishes, from the popular chicken tikka to unusual stuffed lamb are served with fresh naan bread, chutney and pickles are served at dinner. After dinner, the only decision you need to take is whether you prefer to drift off to sleep inside your bungalow or on the open rooftop machan.

  • The best time to visit is between October to June when game viewing is at its best
  • Children are welcome. Regretfully, children 5 years and younger cannot participate in the regular game drives
